Scientific Calculator

Type or tap any expression and press = . The calculator evaluates it with standard order of operations and lists each reduction, so you can see exactly why 2 + 3 × 4² is 50 and not 80.

Keyboard readyAngles in deg
Answer50
Order-of-operations steps 3 steps

Start: 2 + 3 × 4^2

  1. Exponent
    4^2 = 16→ 2 + 3 × 16
  2. Multiply
    3 × 16 = 48→ 2 + 48
  3. Add
    2 + 48 = 50→ 50

How to use the scientific calculator

  1. Type an expression with the keyboard or the on-screen keys.
  2. Choose DEG or RAD before using sin, cos or tan.
  3. Press = or Enter. The answer appears instantly.
  4. Open “Show steps” to see each operation reduced in order.

Order of operations

1. Brackets (innermost first)
2. Exponents, roots, functions and factorials
3. Multiplication and division, left to right
4. Addition and subtraction, left to right

Unary minus applies after the exponent: −2² means −(2²).

Worked examples

Each example below is generated by the same calculator you used above, so the working always matches the answer.

15 × 4 + 9
Answer69
Order-of-operations steps 2 steps

Start: 15 × 4 + 9

  1. Multiply
    15 × 4 = 60→ 60 + 9
  2. Add
    60 + 9 = 69→ 69
2 + 3 × 4^2
Answer50
Order-of-operations steps 3 steps

  1. Exponent
    4^2 = 16→ 2 + 3 × 16
  2. Multiply

(3 + 4) × (2 − 5)
Answer-21
Order-of-operations steps 3 steps

Start: (3 + 4) × (2 − 5)

  1. Add
    3 + 4 = 7→ 7 × (2 − 5)
  2. Subtract
    2 − 5 = −3→ 7 × (−3)
  3. Multiply
    7 × (−3) = −21→ −21
sin(30) + √(64) ÷ 2^3
Answer1.5
Order-of-operations steps 5 steps

Start: sin(30) + √(64) ÷ 2^3

  1. Function
    sin(30) = 0.5 (angle in degrees)→ 0.5 + √(64) ÷ 2^3
  2. Square root
    √(64) = 8→ 0.5 + 8 ÷ 2^3
  3. Exponent
    2^3 = 8→ 0.5 + 8 ÷ 8
  4. Divide
    8 ÷ 8 = 1→ 0.5 + 1
  5. Add
    0.5 + 1 = 1.5→ 1.5

Common mistakes to avoid

Reading −2² as 4

The exponent binds tighter than the minus sign, so −2² is −4. To square a negative number, write (−2)².

Using the wrong angle mode

sin(30) is 0.5 in degrees but about −0.988 in radians. Check the DEG/RAD toggle first.

Left-to-right surprises

8 ÷ 2 × 4 is 16, not 1: multiplication and division share a level and run left to right.

Frequently asked questions

Does it use eval or send my input anywhere?

No. Your expression is parsed and evaluated by a small built-in parser in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

How precise are the answers?

Calculations use standard double-precision floating point. Results are cleaned to 12 significant digits to hide noise such as 0.1 + 0.2, and intermediate steps are shown to 10.

Which functions are supported?

sin, cos, tan and their inverses, log (base 10), ln, log2, √, cbrt, abs, exp, factorials (n!), percent (%), and the constants π and e.
